Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy computer parts to build a new computer. I've had too many BSOD's and now my computer won't turn on. I think the overall problem of my currently computer is my hard drive, however its 4 years old, and I'm expecting other parts are going to be going out soon anyways. Therefore, I am trying to get a good computer, but not spend that much 😛.

CURRENT COMPUTER (Its broken, however I want a computer similar to this one):

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTS 250
CPU: Amd Athlon II x4 635 2.9 GHz
PSupply: 700 (Not really sure why I got a 700. . .but w/e lol)
Mobo: I'm not sure, I just know its a USB 3.0 series, if this is important, please let me know and I will try my best to figure out what exactly it is.
Hard Drive: 500 GB
RAM: 8 gb DDR3
Windows 7 Home premium

Possibly NEW Computer Setup:

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 ti
CPU: Amd Athlon II x4 640 3.0 GHz
PSupply: 500 Pwatt - Was thinking Corsair
Mobo: I'm not sure, I don't know what I should get - Please make recommendation
Hard Drive: 500 GB
RAM: 8 gb DDR3 (Is there a big deal with the number after? I just know that 8 gb should be enough)
Windows 7 home premium

(I was thinking I could use my old case, and my old heat sink because I just bought it like a month ago. And it is AMD3 Socket so hopefully should be good to go on that part)

The things that I need my computer to do:

Play WoW with good FPS - My current computer gets like 100-130 FPS
Stream with OBS - Was able to stream with around 100 FPS usually

Main Questions:
-What MOBO should I get
-What type ram(8 gb DDR3 xxx) <-- Numbers.
-As far as Optical drives go, could I just use an old one? There isn't a special compatibility with the MOBO or anything right?
-When I'm building a computer on Ibuypower.com(Where I bought my last one) I see things like Network Card:: Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100) and Sound Card::3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard. Do I need to buy these things too?(I'm thinking yes, but again, looking for recommendations on what to get 😛)
-Do computer cases have to be specific to what is inside of it? I would like to use my current computer case if possible, I really like it.
-Is there a website that would like let me completely build my own custom computer? When I look around, I just see they give me a computer and change some things inside of it, however, they don't give you every possible option

If anyone has seen a setup like this and is prebuilt and ready to go, please let me know! :)

Get either DDR3 1333 or 1600 RAM. You don't need a sound card, but if you use wireless then you need a wireless adapter, you can get usb ones for around $20. You can use your old optical drive as long as it is SATA and not IDE. What case do you have? Cases mostly don't matter, but some cases take MicroATX or MiniITX motherboards, which are smaller than the standard ATX motherboard size.

Just to be clear : do you want to build it or do you want prebuilt?

I chose a good MicroATX motherboard, you should see if the case you have will fit a micro atx board, the dimensions are 24.4cm by 24.4cm. If your case will not take a micro atx board, the Rosewill challenger is a good case for very little.

you cant compare a 7870 to GTX 760 ... at all

PhysX alone is better.

he needs a gaming machine , not a rendering machine...

i3 at 3.4 GHZ is more than enough.

Well, I think I will be able to build it myself. Well the one I have right now, I have taken apart. Not full, but like I have taken out and put back in Psupply, Heat sink, RAM, hard drive, motherboard, video card. I think I will be able to build it myself, however, if I can find a setup like this prebuilt, I'd rather that. I am really a fan of Nvidia, not as much radeon, GTX 650 ti will be more then enough, compared to my last one that was a GTS 250 and did fine.

I should just use my old one? I just use an ethernet cord, not wireless.

You think an i3 is more than enough? I think a GTX 750 is a bit too much.

The main question is do you think the Motherboard / CPU I'm getting is fine?
Also, is there a difference betweem 8gb ram (x2 of the 4gb) rather then my set up of just 1 8 GB.
I have a ThermalTake case, but not sure what exactly. I still have the serial number for my whole package (my whole computer), but can't find out how to look it up.

I understand the Athlon 640 isn't the best, I only chose it because my 635 seemed fine. I was thinking of upping my Athlon 640 to something a little bit bigger, but staying close to the price range (Athlon 640 is $80).

you will not know it untill you try it :)

go intel .. and the GTX 760 is not too much it is just $250

here is a comparison between it and 650ti

look at the HUGE difference in gaming

you use 2 ram coz the cpu read them in DUAL CHANNEL doubling the bandwidth .. so allways put them in PAIRS

Well if I was rich, and could just 'try' different parts out, things would be different 😛

The reason I was staying away from intel is because it seems to be a lot more expensive.

Thanks for explaining why to get x2 4 GB DDR3 :)

I see there is a HUGE difference, however, if the only game I play is WoW, I shouldn't need all of that. A Geforce GTS 250 was PLENTY. No need to spend an extra $100 😛.

those 20 dollars can be lowered if you wish to stay at 700$

Edit : that offer has a $77 discount in rebates and combos ... you dont know what you are missing.

I see, not really sure why I said 700. However, do you think my setup is fine? MoBo wise, and I need a sound card if I want to get sound out of my system correct? With WoW in arenas, skype is a must. Especially being top .005% of WoW players NA.

Are sound cards universal? Could I just use my old one or no.

One thing I see with my setup that I would like to change is my CPU. Mine is only $80, and I would like to get one around the $100-140 range. I understand that the CPU I have set up is not the best, however, my previous one was a Athlon 635, and it ran what I needed to fine. Also, I would like to keep my CPU as AM3 socket because I already have a new heat sink, so would rather not spend the extra $50 getting a different heat sink just to get a bit better CPU.

I'm just looking to validate that the specs that I am building now are better then my previous one. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money. If I could get a computer ready 2 go - Prebuilt / windows 7 home preium 64-bit, $650 would be my max. However I think the setup I have is better then my previous.

The possible setup is $530. One of the main reasons I was just going to order the parts and build myself was because
1) It's cheaper overall just to build your own
2) I like my case that I have, which will save like $50
3) I just bought a brand new heat sink right before my computer went out, that will save like $50

However, if I could find a setup like this but already prebuilt and ready to go, I would go up to $650

What I'm saying is, what's wrong with my setup? Considering it's better then my last setup and my last setup got me everything I needed. Why spend an extra $100 for your setup. Like I'm at the stage now where I think my setup is final, just need any last recommendations to my motherboard being OK, something that will last me. How important is the motherboard being good? Does it make a big difference? It won't affect my streaming or FPS will it?
