PC manufacturers are fully embracing massive cases for the flagship gaming desktops. HP is clearly no exception with the Omen Max 45L. This is a machine that brashly makes its presence known and looks good while doing it.

With three 120mm fans up front, a honking 1,200-watt power supply in the bottom of the chassis, room for a flagship graphics card from AMD or Nvidia, and HP's dedicated Cryo Chamber that sits atop the chassis, it's no wonder the Omen Max 45L is so large and in charge.

Where to even start with this? $6500 for proprietary components and cooling gimmicks. Of course the "cryo chamber" will perform better than a regular top mounted rad pulling in GPU heat but it's no better than a front mounted rad. 9900X3D is just silly, 6 cores for gaming. And finally this gem: "We once again saw the Omen Max 45L punching above its weight class in the CPU-intensive Far Cry 6."
What weight class is above a 5090+X3D CPU?

that video was from at least 6-months ago.

I see a few responses on the video review
now, from the last 1-2 weeks, from people who say they own the Omen 45L and the newest firmware fixes a lot of the problems.

I'd like more solid reviews and reliable comments.

  • Looks very impressive!

Only thing i don't really like, is the PSU.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems rather generic.

March 28, 2026 - (dated for context and reference) My first modern PCs were factory built in the early 2000's from Gateway. Then I made my own mid-tower builds. My first full tower build was from iBUYPOWER. After that I did all my own full tower PCs. I would say that we have come full circle, where once again we will be buying factory made PCs. When, and if my current full tower PCs need to be replaced. I will have to "bite the bullet" and probably buy a factory made PC. I have noted a number of YouTube videos lately, where the hosts have purchased, and given positive reviews on mid-tower PCs purchased at big box stores like Wal-Mart.

According to the GN review, the biggest flaw was the design of the "cryo-chamber" that just didn't work. It was so bad that the CPU was throttling. I don't see how a firmware update could have fixed that. Maybe HP improved their design?

And I agree with DingusDog. Almost $6.5k for 6 gaming cores? Seriously? At this price point a 9950X3D should be the minimum, and even a 9800X3D would have been better (you don't buy a PC like this if you don't game and the 9900X3D is the worst option for that).
