Netflix UK Reaches One Million Subscribers in Seven Months
Netflix UK and IRL hits one million subscribers in less than a year.
Netflix has amassed more than 20 million U.S. users since the service launched over a decade ago, and it seems the company's expansion into the UK and Irish markets is going quite well. Despite only arriving in the United Kingdom in January of this year, Netflix today announced that it has already passed the one million users milestone. Netflix says the UK and Ireland hit the milestone within seven months, faster than in any other territory that Netflix has launched.
"This membership milestone is evidence that Netflix has rapidly gained popularity in the UK and Ireland," said Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings. "Our British and Irish members clearly enjoy the ability to instantly watch a large variety of TV shows and films streaming from Netflix on their favourite devices whenever they want."
Netflix says the most popular time for British and Irish to settle down with Netflix is Sunday nights, and the top genre choices are comedy and drama. Netflix has yet to bring its DVD rental service to the UK. The company's streaming-only package costs £5.99 per month for customers in the United Kingdom, or €6.99 for those residing in Ireland.
