OCZ Releases Memory For Montevina Notebooks

Intel’s next generation Centrino 2 notebook platform is still not ready, but at least we have received word that OCZ has put the finishing touches on enthusiast DDR3 SO-DIMMs for the new platform.

OCZ announced DDR3 modules clocked at 1066 GT/sec and 1333 GT/sec ("GHz"), marked as PC3-8500 and PC3-10666 modules. According to OCZ, this memory should significantly increase the performance of the system, especially on the higher end of the product line.

The main feature of DDR3 vs. DDR2 in notebooks is a decreased voltage, which should lower the load on the battery and slightly extend the battery life of the system.

I wonder if we will see 4GB ram modules for DR3 SO-DIMMs? Also, does this new platform require laptops to have 3 ram slots for tri-core memory like the upcoming X58?

Hopefully DDR III will break 10 GB barrier (read 8GB x 2) memory support.
