Extensive research into the pricing of some of the best hard drives on the market for large capacity, economical storage indicates that prices are beginning to increase sharply, with some of the most popular models on the market seeing increases upwards of 60%. According to research from ComputerBase, pricing analysis on 12 of the most popular mainstream drives on the market indicates an average price increase of 46% over the last 4 months.

While the research and price checks on these drives track movement based on European prices (ComputerBase is a German outlet), Tom's Hardware checks on similar or identical SKUs in the U.S. indicate that the trends are indeed replicated, or perhaps worse, on the other side of the pond.

Just before Christmas those 24 TB Seagate drives were under $250 and I got two. Then 28 TB USB drives were available at the same price. I didn't get any because the last time I shucked a drive I hurt myself and didn't feel like doing that again.

Had I know prices would double in two months...

Good thing I picked up 2 of these, but that was also late november, and this news says HD prices increased since September, yet in November the price for the above has never been lower. So seagate would not have offered this amazing deal on black friday if there was any type of shortage for hard drives or a predicted shortage.
