You won’t find many hard drives that operate quieter than the WD6000 in idle. In fact, idle noise is only noticeable in really quiet environments. We couldn't hear the drive at all when air conditioning was running.
During high activity, the WD6000 gets close to the noise level of single-platter 3.5” drives.
Surface Temperature
The 600GB VelociRaptor is as hot or as cool as the predecessor. No changes here.
